Hypnobabies® FAQs

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes! Anyone of at least average intelligence, who can follow directions can be hypnotized. Occasionally, a person may need several attempts before actually entering into hypnosis. What causes this? Generally, it’s holding onto a little bit of fear – fear of loss of control. This is a misunderstanding as the proper use of hypnosis actually gives you greater control over all aspects of your life.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Since hypnosis is a means of moving into a perfectly natural state of mind that all people experience several times a day, it feels very “normal.” Have you ever had the experience of driving along the highway and suddenly realizing that you passed your exit several miles back? You were in hypnosis! Or maybe you have been so caught up in a book, movie, or video game that you don’t even realize that someone has been speaking to you for the past several minutes? THAT is hypnosis. So you see, when a hypnotist or a hypnosis audio track guides you into hypnosis, they are not asking you to experience anything strange or that you haven’t experienced before. Daydreaming, falling asleep, and waking up, “zoning out” – these are all states of hypnosis, and everyone experiences these differently. In guided hypnosis sessions, we all experience hypnosis differently as well. Some people feel very light and “floaty,” some people feel very heavy, and some people are even hyper-aware of everything around them when they listen! Some people don’t “feel” or “experience” anything at all out of the ordinary for them while they are in hypnosis. You simply cannot gauge your state of hypnosis by a feeling, or an experience.

Will I do something against my will?

When you are hypnotized, you are aware of all suggestions given to you, and you will not do anything against your moral or ethical principles. (despite what you may have seen in stage hypnosis shows)

Will I remember everything that happens in hypnosis?

Yes, you will remember everything that happens in hypnosis if that is your desire. Occasionally a person might choose to selectively forget specific facts for a time and then bring them up later when they are more ready.

Why hypnosis?

Because in hypnosis, you access your subconscious, the suggestible, more powerful part of your mind where real, lasting change takes place. You may have heard it said that we only use 10% of our brain; hypnosis is a way to get access to that other 90% . Especially in habit and pain control, this eliminates any internal battle that may occur.

What if I’m planning for an epidural or cesarean section?

While most find Hypnobabies on their journey to an unmedicated birth, Hypnobabies is a comprehensive childbirth education course and can benefit any birthing person, regardless of birth plans. It can be especially helpful if you have a change of plans.

What is the difference between Hypnobabies® and Hypnobirthing?

Other Hypno course teaches excellent hypnosis skills that have helped many birthing people to have more positive and relaxing birth experiences. Every birthing person will find a class that works best for them. With that being said, Hypnobabies is one of the most complete childbirth education courses as well as in-depth hypnosis training.

Will this conflict with my religious beliefs?

Hypnosis is an everyday state of mind. We go into hypnosis daily while reading, driving, daydreaming, watching tv, etc. Because it’s such a normal thing, it is compatible with any religion or belief system.

How much does it cost?

350$ for group rate classes and 700$ for private classes. Scholarship spots are occasionally available, reach out to find out how to apply if needed.

How long is the class?

Each class series is six weeks long, and each class is approximately three hours long. Some weeks are shorter, some are longer, but it evens out to be about three hours a class on average.

What is required outside of class?

  • You get to enjoy your positive affirmations track as you go about each day.

  • Working together with your birth partner and having them practice reading you your hypnosis scripts.

  • You get to relax each day for about 30-40 minutes as your practice your hypnosis listening to your Hypnobabies tracks.

  • Lastly, there is extra reading that you can catch up on throughout the week. Simple and short articles that make for great before bed literature.

What do we get as the class materials?

Your Hypnobabies® Workbook, 4 MP3 download cards or 7 CDs for the Hypno-mom, 5 Hypnobabies® hypnosis scripts in a booklet, your Quick Reference Guide, your Birth Partner’s Guide, the Birth Partner’s audio track on CD or MP3 download card, and many essential handouts.
