Our Philosophy

Breath Is Our Sacred Companion

In a world that rushes, birth teaches another rhythm. It asks for patience, for trust, for the quiet courage to remain present when nothing can be forced and everything is unfolding in its own time.

Breath is our own sacred companion in this work.

Breath softens the impulse to hurry, it anchors us in the moment, and through breath, we remember that our role is not to control, but to witness and support and honor the wisdom from within.

Each birth invites us into sacred territory.

  • The first breath of life into the newborn.
  • The deep breath of the birthing parent finding their strength.
  • The collective breath and release of everyone in the room.

These moments remind us that life begins not in haste, but in presence.

Kalli Chason, midwife and owner of Breathe Birth Care
Meet Your Midwife

Hi, I'm Kalli!

Midwife and Owner at Breathe Birth Care

Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) • Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDEM) in Utah

I'm a mom of three kiddos, all of which I birthed at home with the support of some incredible midwives. I've been a birth worker since 2015, but it was after the birth of my first daughter I knew that my path would eventually lead to midwifery. I started midwifery school and in a preceptorship as a midwife student in 2020 and then graduated from Midwives College of Utah in 2024. I have worked as a homebirth midwife ever since. As a midwife it's my belief that my clients have the highest knowledge and authority over their body and baby and that we as midwives, are professionals with knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum in general.

We know that the pairing of both your inner knowing and our expertise provides not only the safest care, but individualized care that feels good for everyone. It is my greatest joy to provide you with the knowledge and support needed to make informed and confident decisions on how you receive your care.

When I am not catching babies, you'll find me spending time with my family, enjoying nature through camping and hiking, traveling when at all possible, reading books, and creating art through many forms, but primarily embroidery.

Meet Your Midwife

Hi, I'm Teryl!

Midwife at Breathe Birth Care

Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) • Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDEM) in Utah

I'm Teryl Stay, founder of Stay Awhile Midwifery.

My journey in birth work began 20 years ago as a birth and postpartum doula. While I've supported families across every birth setting, it took experiencing just one home birth to realize where my heart truly belonged. That transformative moment set me on a path to complete a rigorous five-year apprenticeship and earn my degree from the Midwives College of Utah.

Over the past six years as a practicing midwife, I've had the profound privilege of attending over 350 births. My practice is built on a foundation of deeply inclusive, compassionate, and personalized care. I am genuinely in love with this calling and honored to hold space for families as they bring new life into the world.

Beyond the Birth Space

When I'm not supporting growing families, I am a devoted homebody and mother to three wonderful boys. Our home is a lively sanctuary shared with two cats, a dog, and a flourishing jungle of at least 50 house plants. I find joy and restoration in life's quiet pleasures—art in many forms, especially watercolor painting, tending to my garden, hunting for antiques, collecting crystals and all the witchy things, losing myself in a good book, or soaking in a long bubble bath.

Hi, I'm Morgan!

Backup Midwife at Breathe Birth Care

Hi I'm Morgan! I originally got into birth work after the birth of my first in 2016. I felt unheard in my needs and wants and knew that I didn't want anyone else to feel that way during such a pivotal time in life. I started as a doula which quickly escalated to wanting to become a midwife. I started school at the Midwives College of Utah in 2021 and graduated with my bachelors degree in 2025.

As a midwife I'm passionate about providing individualized care and giving information to families so they can make an informed and educated choice that is best for them and their unique needs. I love being an advocate and walking with families through changes that come with the child bearing year. I try to provide a space full of acceptance and warmth for each of the families I care for. Whether you want to give birth at home, in a hospital or in a birth pool, my goal as a midwife is to help you feel empowered, safe and supported.

When I'm not catching babies you can find me curled up with a book, listen to a crime podcast, researching my latest hyperfixation and spending time with my family. I love all large bodies of water, the ocean and all animals and tiny creatures.

What Families Are Saying

  • Greg Peterson

Kalli has been an integral part of two of our kids' births so far. She truly cares for all individuals involved - my wife, me, & our already-born kids. She does so well in coaching the mother through the birth process during labor and ensures the mother is as comfortable as possible. We highly recommend her as a midwife!

  • Whitney Peterson

I love my midwives! Kalli is so kind and sweet. I appreciated her support and care during two of my home births. They help encourage you, remind you that you are loved, help you with struggles, listen chat, educate, and care about the things you care about. I love the prenatal & postnatal care as well and the care they offered to me, my husband, and my babies. 🫶🏼

  • Margaret Willis

I am so grateful for the loving and very personal care my baby and I received. The at-home checkups and ability to text with questions and concerns was so helpful, and I learned so much about pregnancy, birthing, postpartum, and just variations of mothering that fit who I am. They were so patient and caring, and I always felt like a top priority. We had the most beautiful at-home labor, and due to the size of my birth canal, needed a non-emergency C-section and they handled the transfer and care there seamlessly and stayed with us. The aftercare visits were a dream, and we were so loved and in such good hands. I highly recommend these lovely women. They are so professional, nonjudgmental, open minded and hearted, and wonderful teachers.

I was looking for a home birth midwife for my fourth baby when I came across Kalli and her midwife partner Teryl. I'd had home births before but was looking for a midwife that I could have more of a close relationship with and feel more supported. Honestly, I was sold the minute I saw the Stay Awhile website. The whole concept of community and wholistic care were exactly what I needed. I'd been on my own journey of intentional and slow living, so her message spoke right to my soul. On our consultation call, I had such a good feeling that this was it. Kalli has been a personal friend of mine for a few years and it just so happened she finished midwifery school shortly before my baby was born. At each appointment we chatted as friends, swapping book reviews as we listened to baby's heartbeat. She took such care in involving my kids too. And she came to my house for every appointment which was a huge deal!! During my birth, not only was I supported by a birth team I trusted, but I also felt so held and loved. Each postpartum appointment Kalli was just as eager to know how I was doing as the baby. My midwife team wouldn't leave without doing something to help and even vacuumed my floors! It meant a lot that they kept coming even three months after baby was born, throughout the whole fourth trimester. It was more appointments than I'd ever had postpartum, and I'd had several other home births. They were always a text away and I always felt comfortable asking (literally) any question. I would (and have) recommend Kalli in a heartbeat! Not only do I trust her as a practitioner, I'm so glad to have her as a trusted friend.

  • Sophia Brock

Kalli is amazing! I felt like her Spirit and the energy of peace and positivity and joy that she brought with her was critical to my getting through my first birth. I love her so much! When I had my second baby she was, again, a huge source of light, peace and reassurance! She's very knowledgeable and consulted with my other midwife quickly and professionally to make sure I got the care I needed after hemorrhaging lightly and tearing pretty extensively. I highly highly recommend her if you're looking to have a positive and peaceful homebirth experience!!

  • Peyton Collier

Kalli and Teryl were absolutely amazing with both of our daughters. They helped create a comfortable and positive environment and prioritized our birth plan while also helping keep my wife and babies safe. We love them and all that they do for us between the first visit to post birth care.

  • Kailee Bee

I absolutely loved my experience with kalli. She made me feel so seen, our conversations are always genuine and I can tell she truly cares. I will forever recommend her!!

  • Ruth Musser

I started my pregnancy not knowing very much. I always knew I wanted a home birth but I didn't know where to look or who would be the right fit for me. I went to my 8 week appointment at Valley Women's and during that appointment they told me I would be giving birth in the hospital and I thought, I want my baby born at home so I started doing some research and the first interview I had with Kali and Teryl was amazing. These ladies were absolutely incredible. My husband and I didn't even try searching any where else. We knew these were the people we wanted to help bring our baby into the world. Every appointment, every text message and every phone call, I felt like it had the best team on my side. My birth didn't go to plan but if it wasn't for the team I had, I can't even think of what it would have been like without them. These ladies are absolutely jewels to me. They are my heroes and the whole journey, they were my safe place! I can't thank them enough for what they have done for me and my family. This team of ladies will always have a special place in my heart and home!

  • Sunnie Rothey

Kalli has been such a special part of our family since we started seeing them at the beginning of our birth process. She truly is a close friend after all we've been through together. I couldn't imagine giving birth any other way. She became my village and I needed her through so many questions and struggles. I still reach out with questions and my baby is now two. She took her time at each visit and I heard it best from another friend who birthed with them, "they healed my heart and my lady bits." She is a true artisan of her craft and met each client where they were. My husband and I worked in the hospital at the time of our pregnancy and my husband was skeptical of home birth but she reassured all his concerns and met him with evidence and support which is exactly what he needed to hear to get on board. 10/10 can not recommend Kalli enough!

  • Lindsey Dickson

Kalli and Teryl were with me through everything! I started seeing them at about 12 weeks pregnant or so through 3 months postpartum. They were so attentive and personable the whole time! I loved that they came to my house for all our appointments and whenever I had a question or concern they were always there, anytime of day! It was so nice to have their phone numbers so I could get ahold of them directly and quickly. They made me feel at ease with everything and never ever made me feel like I couldn't do it. I ended up having to have a C-section instead of a home birth but they were with me every step of the way. They came to the hospital with me and didn't leave until after that baby was in my arms! They helped advocate for me and the things I did and did not want and answered all my questions while in the hospital. I can not recommend them enough! I love them so much and even 2 years postpartum now they still are always there for me if I have questions or even just to share our milestones!

  • Kali Sadler

Kalli is one of the kindest and most genuine people I know. The energy she brings to the birthing space is incredibly calm but also protective. She is highly knowledgeable about evidence-based practices (among other things) but isn't afraid to admit when she doesn't have an answer. My birth was complicated for several reasons but I was never worried or scared, she never appeared alarmed or panicked, she remained calm and positive while still acting quickly and explaining everything she was doing and pausing for consent with every new complication, handling everything flawlessly so that we never needed to transfer. I deeply love and appreciate this person and am so grateful for her role in my birth!

  • Meg Babcock

I had a life changing experience giving birth to my third baby under the care of Kalli. She empowered me to accomplish a successful VBAC and intentionally helped me make the right decisions for myself and my baby. My home birth went beautifully and she stayed by my side through all of it. I am forever grateful for her. I am now 8 months postpartum and baby and I are both happy and healthy!

  • Maddy Brantley

Kalli and Teryl were phenomenal from start to finish. They are well priced, very kind, genuine, down to earth, incredibly knowledgeable and talented at what they do. Because of them I was able to have the best, most magical and sacred birth that I will cherish forever. I trust them with my/my baby's life! Thank you Kalli and Teryl! Love you both!

  • Dr. Josh Adams, D.C.

You're definitely in the right hands with Breathe Birth. My wife and I had an incredible experience with Kalli. See for yourself and give them a call.

  • Michael Pelo

Posting on my husband's account but I used Kalli and Teryl and had an incredible experience! They were attentive to my concerns, knew what they were doing and gave me so much confidence in what my body could do. I would trust them a million times over to deliver my babies!!
